Our MSc Management course comprises six compulsory modules that delve into essential areas including finance, strategy, decision making, entrepreneurship, and operations. This robust foundation facilitates a deep comprehension of management fundamentals. As you progress, you'll have the opportunity to tailor your learning journey via a selection of optional modules, aligning your studies with your personal interests and career aspirations. The final part of the course is a project, where you'll apply the skills and knowledge acquired to tackle a specific management issue or problem. This project will underscore your ability to address issues, critique relevant literature, collect and analyse data, manage change processes, and substantiate your recommendations and conclusions.

This module examines the role of operations management and emerging technologies in creating competitive advantage for business. It develops critical understanding of innovative operations management practices, techniques, technologies and applications to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of business operations.

This module will develop your skills in business analytics and evidence-based decision-making within management contexts. You will learn to apply analytical methods to solve complex business problems, with an emphasis on practical implementation using industry-standard tools. Through engagement with global business scenarios, you will develop competencies in data analysis, interpretation, and strategic communication, while building critical awareness of ethical implications and emerging trends in business analytics.

This module aims to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of  contemporary strategic and management challenges, equipping you with the skills to formulate, implement, and evaluate business strategies in diverse organisational contexts. You will critically explore strategic analysis frameworks, including macro and industry environment assessments, and examine the role of leadership and management approaches in driving organisational success. By integrating theoretical foundations with practical applications, the module emphasises critical thinking and strategic decision-making, preparing you to navigate complex business environments and develop effective, evidence-based management strategies.

The primary aim of this module is to develop your employability skills and support your search for a placement. The module will include communication, team working, negotiation and problem-solving skills development as well as practical workshops on selection methods, CVs, cover letters, interview preparation and techniques. The module will also introduce you to other methods that will include aptitude test and assessment centres.

This module will develop your critical awareness of the complexities involved in managing a contemporary workforce, with a focus on the underlying psychological processes. You will critically examine how factors such as workforce diversity, evolving work structures, and socio-economic changes create new challenges for managers. Through engagement with research, case studies, and self-reflective exercises, the module encourages a re-evaluation of traditional management theories and practices, fostering the exploration of innovative and adaptive approaches to contemporary management issues.

This module will introduce you to the strategic project management techniques, and how they are used across a range of sectors to implement strategic corporate objectives. In particular, the module aims to offer a comprehensive account of project management, programme management, project portfolios, and systems design processes. You will also engage with PRINCE2® project management methodology and software.

The module will provide you with the knowledge and skills to utilise a wide variety of digital tools to develop and grow their business. It also give you an understanding of factors from within the digital environment that influence the outcomes of various decisions relating to the development and growth of small business.

This module will equip you with a practical, integrated, and cross-functional understanding of operations and supply chain management as drivers of efficiency, strategic advantage, and organisational success in a competitive global business environment. You will gain insights into best practices for designing, implementing, and managing efficient and effective global operations and supply chains while addressing contemporary risks, challenges and opportunities in real-world business challenges.

This module will equip you with an overview of the relevant problem-solving skills required at each of the key stages in the consultancy cycle. The module will focus on developing strategic consultancy skills, diagnostic techniques, group dynamics, communicating strategies, managing internal and external consultancy interventions, and change management. You will learn to apply the key skills required in varying contexts to ensure that the clients are offered effective and practical solutions.

The module aims to develop a critical understanding of the financial decision-making in a global business context, exploring both conventional financial principles and contemporary issues. You will examine the role of financial instruments, risk management strategies, and cross-border financial operations in multinational enterprises. By the end of the module, you will be able to analyse and evaluate international financial decisions, assessing their impact on organisational performance.

This project lets you build on what you’ve learned by tackling a real-world business management issue, conducting research, analysing the problem, and exploring possible solutions. By working on a current topic and producing a substantial report, you’ll demonstrate your ability to apply research methods effectively, think critically, and address complex business challenges.

This module will provide you with an immersive experiential learning opportunity that also replaces the traditional dissertation. The module focuses on utilising a business simulation to enhance students' understanding of business and management concepts and their practical application in a simulated, practical, dynamic, competitive and complex business environment. By engaging in the business simulation, you will develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, while gaining valuable hands-on experience in strategic and tactical decision-making, developing autonomy, enhancing their agility to navigate changing business environments to critique and solve complex problems, thus preparing them for future business challenges and successful careers in the business world.

This module offers you an academic year long (30 - 36 weeks) professional placement that is directly applicable to their studies, encouraging you to engage in critical reflection on your learning through hands-on experience. Additionally, the module seeks to develop your intellectual and interpersonal abilities, thereby deepening their critical comprehension of real-world applications.

The module builds on learning from prior modules and provides you with the experience of working collaboratively on a real, practitioner-driven business or policy transformation project. The module will develop your ability to effectively focus, present and communicate information and ideas. You will be able to operationalise the knowledge and critical skills gained in your taught modules, develop and consolidate transferrable skills and facilitate integration into work.

Teaching and learning

Teaching

You'll be taught by an experienced teaching team with a wide range of expertise and professional experience.

You'll attend lectures, including talks by guest speakers, as well as seminars and workshops, some of which will focus on research methods.

These sessions will involve peer group interaction and aim to sharpen both your critical and analytical skills. You will also work on case studies to enhance your understanding of practice situations and undertake directed reading and study, including online activity.

The course is delivered by our academics and industry partners in person and via digital platforms. Our learning activities include lectures, presentations, webinars, one-to-one tutorials and group projects.

You'll be taught by an experienced teaching team with a wide range of expertise and professional experience. Your personal tutor will support you with help and advice throughout your studies.

On-campus: This includes tutor-led sessions such as seminars, lab sessions and demonstrations as well as student-led sessions for work in small groups.

Independent study: This is the work you do in your own time including reading and research.

Part-time study

You can also study this course part-time.

You will be studying at our leafy north London campus in Hendon.

You will be assessed through a range of activities, including simulations, business proposals, consultancy projects, presentations, written assignments, and the research and writing undertaken for your dissertation.

We have a strong support network online and on campus to help you develop your academic skills. Our Sheppard Library is open from 7am to 11pm Monday to Sunday during term time and always available online. We offer one-to-one and group sessions to develop your learning skills together with academic support from our library, IT teams and learning experts.

Feedback

You'll evaluate your work, skills and knowledge and identify areas for improvement. Sometimes you'll work in groups and assess each other's progress.
