Our International Business degree course seamlessly integrates business and management theory with practice, emphasising practical learning, technological and analytical competencies, and global and cross-cultural awareness. Your studies will be focused on a progressively international business syllabus. Through tailored modules, you'll gain specialist knowledge in international trade and ethics and explore the challenges associated with taking a business to the global market. In addition, you will cover the fundamentals of business finance which are essential to making effective decisions in a globalised environment.

This module provides a foundational understanding of business data and the state of digital technologies. The module will equip you with the skills to effectively collect data, analyse, communicate, and interpret statistical information to address a wide range of business and management challenges. By introducing the integral role of digital technologies in modern and innovative business environments, the module provides insights into both the current state and the evolving landscape of technological advancements and its implications on business. 

This module introduces you to management concepts, such as business functions, organisational structure, and work design approaches, stressing the importance of effective organisational communication, teamwork and the development of conflict management and negotiation strategies. You will learn to use managerial tools to assess the organisational environment and enhance performance. The module highlights the vital role of corporate social responsibility and ethics for long-term business sustainability.

This module develops your financial knowledge within business organisations to enable them to make effective decisions and to assess the cost, economic and financial implications of these decisions. It provides you with an understanding of accounting and finance for business as well as learning the key economic principles that inform business thought and practice.

This module provides you with an overview of key marketing concepts and apply them in a variety of organisations. The module provides you with an initial introduction to the fundamentals of marketing and will provide a key foundation that is relevant across a variety of business courses. You will develop knowledge and understanding of the core role of marketing, including the value of the marketing mix in ensuring successful marketing strategies, as well as the significance of external and internal environment for marketing practice.

On this module you will undertake approved work experiences and personal and professional development activities, for a minimum of eighteen weeks full time employment. This will give you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of work and develop effective strategies to deal with and understand work and organisational life. The module will help you to demonstrate your commercial awareness.

This module introduces you to key concepts, principles, and methodologies associated with innovation, entrepreneurship and sustainability, essential for the success of new ventures and existing organisations. You will develop your ability to analyse business and sustainability issues, evaluate potential solutions, and understand how to implement effective solutions. The module explores the role of innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainability across a range of industries and professions. The module will enable you to incorporate innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainability throughout your careers.

The module equips you with the skills to use analytics and visualisation tools to convert data to insights that can support strategic business decisions. Emphasising the significant impact of data-driven insights on operational and strategic initiatives, the curriculum will navigate through key analytics concepts, from data visualisation and predictive modelling to customer analytics and segmentation. With a hands-on approach, the course will immerse you in the practicalities of management analytics, utilising advanced tools and techniques to extract and interpret data from various sources.

This module develops your knowledge of operations and supply chain management within a variety of organisations. It examines  aspects of operations and supply chain management relevant to the design, planning, control and improvement of business operations. You'll learn to evaluate, select and apply relevant operations management concepts, tools and techniques to solve problems, make informed decisions and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of operational processes.

This module develops in-depth understanding of international trade, trade theories, the role of multinational enterprises and government policy in the world trade system, and their application to the interdependent world that we live in. It will provide an understanding of the current economic state of the world in which nations are closely linked through trade in goods and services, flows of money, and investment in each other’s economies, and provide insights into current (de)globalisation trends. Taken together these topics should equip you with comprehensive knowledge and a broader sense of doing business beyond the domestic market.

This module provides you with a deep understanding of the complexities and opportunities of global business operations. Through this module, you will explore processes for formulating international business strategies including business environment analyses, market entry strategies, and corporate-level strategies. This module combines theoretical foundations with practical applications, with emphasis placed on developing critical thinking and strategic planning skills, enabling you to devise, implement, and evaluate business strategies in an international business context. 

This module further develops your leadership knowledge and understanding within global organisations on the subject areas of leadership styles and approaches, ethics, equality and diversity and personal leadership development. It provides a more in-depth appreciation of the challenges faced by leaders in contemporary global businesses who need to meet the needs of a range of stakeholders, assess the impact of leadership on organisational culture and behaviour as well as recognise when change is necessary. 

This module provides you with practical experience in applying business concepts, theories, and skills to real-world international business contexts. You will work individually on a project to identify, analyse, and propose solutions to a specific business problem. Through hands-on experience, you will develop critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and project management skills essential for success in international business administration.

This module immerses you in the multifaceted landscape of launching a new venture. You will gain knowledge and develop skills relevant to conceptualising start-up commercial activities. Through practice-led learning, you will craft a business plan enriched by industry-led insights and experiential pedagogies, fostering hands-on application of concepts beyond traditional classroom settings. Sustainable development goals will underscore the curriculum, emphasising ethical and socially responsible business practices essential for sustainable growth.

This module offers you the opportunity to engage in a real, client-driven consultancy project. You will work to a project brief provided by external clients, developing practical solutions. The module enables you to apply theoretical knowledge to organisational challenges while enhancing skills in teamwork, problem-solving, and communication. Additionally, it provides insights into the complexities of client management and project delivery.

This module develops your knowledge on cross cultural and ethical theory to equip you with critical thinking skills. One of the central features of modern management is an emphasis on organisational justice, fairness, ethics and social responsibility combined with an awareness that how people lead and manage may vary across cultures. The module enhances your understanding of the complex business environment and global business acumen.

This module equips you with a nuanced understanding of how global brands navigate cross-cultural marketing landscapes. By exploring the intersection of culture and consumer behaviour, you will assess cultural variances and their impact on marketing strategies. The module examines the impacts of internationalisation, globalisation, and cultural influences on marketing strategies, preparing you to adapt marketing mixes for international markets and navigate the complexities of cross-cultural communication and ethics in marketing. 

This module is for you to undertake an approved work experience and personal and professional development activities, for a minimum of 30 days full time employment. This will provide you with an opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of work and develop effective strategies to deal with and understand work and organisational life. The module will develop your ability to articulate your graduate competencies and demonstrate commercial awareness.

Teaching and learning

Innovative teaching and learning

You'll be taught by an experienced teaching team with a wide range of expertise and professional experience.

You will gain knowledge and understanding through: key concept videos and other curated online material, via the My Learning facility, introduce and examine key concepts   and theories and how they relate to real world scenarios.  
 
You will take part in on-campus seminars, workshops and computer lab-based sessions utilise a variety of interactive practice-based activities to stimulate exchange of ideas and development of critical thinking skills, guided reading of textbooks, academic journals, case studies and company and industry documents. 

Activities such as Q&A sessions, polls, quizzes, games, simulations, use of software, role plays, guest speakers and case studies are used to develop in-depth and practice-based knowledge and understanding.  

You will learn skills through participation in on-campus seminars, workshops and computer lab-based sessions that utilise a variety of interactive practice-based scenarios and activities to develop critical analysis, communication, problem solving and digital skills. Learning tasks are designed to challenge you to seek innovative solutions to business problems through collaboration, research and analysis. 
 
A range of interactive online learning activities via the My Learning facility to further develop resilience in qualitative and quantitative analysis, problem solving and decision-making skills. 

During your first year, your weekly timetable will typically consist of:

  • 6 hours of lectures
  • 4 hours of seminars
  • 4 hours of workshops.

You should aim to add a few hours' individual study per module each week to these formal teaching sessions.

Whether you are studying full or part-time – your course timetable will balance your study commitments on campus with time for work, life commitments and independent study.

We aim to make timetables available to students at least 2 weeks before the start of term. Some weeks are different due to how we schedule classes and arrange on-campus sessions.

Our excellent teaching and support teams will help you develop the skills relevant to your degree from research and practical skills to critical thinking. And we offer free 24-hour laptop loans with full desktop software, free printing and Wi-Fi to use on or off campus, even over the weekend.

Your will be assessed by a variety of authentic, innovative and practice-based assessments to benchmark your learning.  

These include individual and group reports, projects and presentations, simulations, posters, portfolios and reflective learning logs. The assessments have been designed to enable you to demonstrate understanding of theory and practice, different sources of information and evidence, awareness of different approaches and solutions to problems and the capacity to sustain a coherent and reasoned argument. You will be provided detailed feedback on their assessment to enable them to further develop your understanding. 

Your skills are assessed by a variety of authentic, innovative and practice-based assessments designed to ensure you illustrate a range of skills and practical abilities required to become an effective business manager. This includes engagement with a range of digital technologies to collect, process, analyse and visualise data, and communicate findings effectively through reports, presentations, posters and portfolios. Leadership, teamwork and collaborative working skills are assessed through group reports and presentations.

Work is divided into credits of approximately 10 hours of study time. You will need to complete 120 credits per year, which are broken down into modules of typically 30 credits.

In both cases, we’ll base this on the information you provide on your application.

We'll accept T Levels for entry onto our undergraduate degree courses (including our extended courses with a foundation year) with standard application of science requirements and English GCSEs in line with UCAS tariff calculation.

Mature students (over 21)

We welcome applications from mature candidates, including those without formal qualifications, provided you can demonstrate relevant experience and ability.

Foundation year

If you don't meet the entry requirements, why not consider our Foundation Year in Business course to help you prepare for the full degree.

Academic credit

If you have a qualification such as a foundation degree or HND, or have gained credit at another university, you may be able to enter a Middlesex University course in year two or three. Find out how you can transfer courses.
