Research activities

I recently completed quantitative research into the use of Social Media as a learning and development tool within the Nursing Associate Programme. I am looking to publish this shortly

Current Teaching

I am currently the Acting Programme Leader for both the FdSc Nursing Associate programme and the BSc Adult Nursing Apprenticeship delivery programme. I am currently the Cohort Leader for the March 2024 Nursing Associate cohort, and I am Module Leader for both NIP1903 Foundations of Nursing Associate Knowledge and NIP3802 Consolidating Scientific Principles for Adult Nursing Apprenticeship delivery.

I am involved in Student Voice Leader meetings, gaining feedback in order to improve the programme delivery and processes. I review the apprenticeship processes ensuring both students and employers are meeting targets for completion, tripartite reviews are completed in a timely manner and off the job hours correctly recorded.

I also teach across many modules of the Nursing Associate and Adult Nursing programmes, for all years of programme delivery.

Previously, I have been cohort leader for October 2022, October 2021 and October 2020 Student Nursing Associate cohorts who have now qualified. I was module leader for NIP1900- Study Skills for Nursing Associates, NIP1904 Year one practice module and NIP2903 Year 2 practice module.

Biography

I am a Lecturer in Adult Nursing and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I currently teach across the apprenticeship delivery programmes of BSc Adult Nursing and the FdSc Nursing Associate. I hold two Bachelors degrees, my initial degree is in Adult Nursing with my second degree in Midwifery. I have completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education and a Master of Science in Nursing Studies. In addition to this, I have also completed several modules and courses within the Open University, including a Certificate in Social Sciences, Molecular Formation of Drugs, and Health and Social Care.

Prior to my career in academia, I have qualified as an Adult Nurse and a Midwife, working across secondary care in Wales and England. I have experience in acute care, including Emergency Care, Theatres, Surgical and Medical wards and assessment units. I spent several years supporting nursing education within the NHS as an education nurse, creating and running study days to ensure that staff were providing evidence based care. I continue to work clinically as an Adult Nurse in my spare time to ensure that my clinical practice and skills are maintained.
